Rainforest Solutions Project
This group includes Greenpeace, Stand (formerly ForestEthics) and Sierra Club B.C. which promotes conservation options and economic alternatives to industrial logging on British Columbia’s Central Coast, North Coast and Haida Gwaii.
The Joint Solutions Project
The Rainforest Solutions Project and the Coast Forest Conservation Initiative joined to create this group. They developed a model for conservation and management of globally significant coastal forests —a model that fully integrates social, economic and ecological factors. They submitted recommendations to government on how to fully implement ecosystem-based management in the Great Bear Rainforest.
The Marine Planning Partnership for the North Pacific Coast (MaPP) initiative
Project partners are the provincial government and 17 member First Nations, represented by three First Nations organizations: the Coastal First Nations–Great Bear Initiative, the North Coast–Skeena First Nations Stewardship Society and the Nanwakolas Council. As part of the MaPP initiative, marine plans were developed for four sub-regions: Central Coast, Haida Gwaii, North Coast and North Vancouver Island. Together, these plans provide an integrated ecosystem-based approach to managing ocean resources on the north Pacific coast.
